Prison Yoga Project
Prison Yoga Project has partnered with Veterans Healing Veterans from the Inside Out since 2012 to bring trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness practices to veterans incarcerated at San Quentin. PYP works to expand these practices to prisons and rehabilitation facilities; advises institutions, agencies and individuals on establishing yoga programs as part of a rehabilitation program; and offers trainings for yoga teachers who are interested in working with at-risk populations.
Marin Shakespeare Company
We are grateful to Marin Shakespeare Company and director Lesley Currier for the work they did with men of VHV-FTIO to bring this powerful play to life. Theatre of War was based on writings by these men about their military experience, and explores the issue of military suicide. Lesley worked with them for eight months to turn those writings and experiences into a powerful performance piece, performed inside the prison on May 21, 2015.
Now I Can Rise, an original song from Theatre of War.
Incarcerated actors, working with Marin Shakespeare in San Quentin State Prison perform texts by VHV-FTIO men in a piece on veteran suicide. Directed by Suraya Keating.
